To be brief: Horrendous. I have worked in 8 restaurants, one of which is the Del Bar in Wisconsin Dells, WI. A true 4 star restaurant, which Arturo's, sadly, is not. I understand that some people have unusually bad experiences at restaurants sometimes. I also have enough experience working restaurant jobs to know when an experience like this isn't chance. To further elucidate on the matter I will start with the service; The man who greeted us was curt, I wouldn't mind except for the fact that it is his job to greet customers and seat them. Sir, you're being paid to smile, it's not that hard. The waitress who helped us was inexperienced. Again, I wouldn't mind except for the unfortunate fact that she is working at a restaurant that claims to be high class and cannot make eye contact with her guests. I can understand that some people have anxiety or any number of issues that make it hard to deal with people; However, if that is the case she should either receive better training or work a job not involving customer service. We were sat outside. This is pertinent to a later event involving Judy, the boss. We were brought menus, water, and the waitress came over after a few minutes. I ordered Escargot as an appetizer. This is an easy dish. I love escargot, I know how it's made, how it tastes, etc... This tasted like acidic fish. Disappointment is not the word I'm looking for. It was so bad that if the waitress wouldn't have taken it off the ticket we would have left. We ordered our entrees; spaghetti for Daniel, Lobster ravioli for yours truly. both of these are VERY SIMPLE DISHES. Both came with a salad, with which Daniel ordered house Italian, I order creamy Italian. We got essentially the same dressing, which was not creamy Italian, and I certainly hope it wasn't the house Italian either. We got what I can only describe as ranch with vinegar mixed in. Not even quality vinegar. Needless to say, we couldn't eat the salads either. Not necessarily due to the horrid taste, but also in large part due to the Owner coming outside in search of her dog. A dog which, might I add, was wandering the restaurant with NO LEASH. I don't have health code memorized but I can't help but imagine there might be at least a CLAUSE about unattended animals in a restaurant. Daniel made an off joke about keeping the dog and the owner got rather in our faces about it. She was, as she said, from New York, so this didn't really bother me. she has an attitude, that's her personality, I can respect that. but she proceeded to sit with the table next to us and call us into the conversation randomly. It was not only off putting, but also rather rude and unprofessional. The entrees were brought out. I paid $28 for lobster ravioli. I got 5 pieces of Ravioli, a mouth-full of disappointment, and a memory I wish wasn't permanent. I paid $5.60 a piece. This was certainly not worth $5.60 a piece. They didn't mess it up, they didn't under-cook it, it was Aesthetically fine; However, when I pay $28 for a meal I expect a meal that I can't cook at home. I expect a flavor, ANY FLAVOR. I could have paid $2 for a can of Chef Boyardee ravioli and I would have gotten more food and better quality. As for Daniel's food... He is a Google Travel Guide, his review should be rather high on the list, and he had some of his own unique observations detailed in his review. Come here if you want to feel so high class you're uncomfortable critiquing the food, service, or sanitary conditions.
