Best Western Castillo Del Sol

The only reason this hotel (actually, its not a hotel, it’s a motel) is even getting one star is because of the ocean view. We came here the weekend of Easter for the tail end of our honeymoon, and while is was busy, it wasn’t too hectic. Checked in and were told that we had been “upgraded.” Excited, we got our keys, and headed to our room. Upon opening the door, we notice a smell- something similar to mildew, body odor, and feet. Ignoring the smell, we went to check out our balcony that faced the ocean..... and we couldn’t open the door. No matter how hard we tried. So my husband called the front desk and was told that maintenance would be up to fix it. 5-10 minutes later, we get a knock on the door and there’s a maintenance guy with new key cards to another room. Didn’t even attempt to check the door out, just moved us. Figuring that maybe our new room would be better, we accepted the keys and moved all our stuff. Get to the new room and once again, there was that same odor; except it’s much much worse. We immediately go to the balcony door and miraculously it opened. We figured if we kept the balcony door opened, maybe the room would air out and the smell would go away. Unfortunately, it never did. On top of the smell, there were stains all over the floor, markings on the walls, stains in the bathroom, and disgusting vents. Not to mention, whenever you showered, you were standing in three inches of water within two minutes because the drain was clogged. This room was so nasty that I refused to walk around barefoot. The breakfast was nice because it was free, but most of the food was nothing to write home about. Also, was not impressed with any staff members; especially one woman who worked at the front desk. Young, very condescending, and overall unhelpful. Very disappointed in this “hotel.” Will not be visiting again. Do yourself a favor, and pay more for a nicer place.
