I have sold my condo in Naples and am in the process of purchasing another condo being sold furnished. I have no need for two households of furniture, so I visited A Bit of Everything to inquire about selling the furniture that I would not need.
Linda was very helpful, but explained that the process would be through the owner, Deborah Ryan, who was out of the shop that day. Linda took my contact information and promised that Ms Ryan would call me the next day. To help in the process, I also provided the websites that could be used to preview the furnishings of both condos.
Ms. Ryan did call me back quickly and had previewed my own furniture in the condo being sold. This furniture is 4 year old Ethan Allen and Tommy Bahama pieces, seasonally used, well cared for and in excellent condition.
Ms. Ryan began the conversation by saying that after seeing my furniture, “It just didn’t do it for me” and followed that with “this is not the quality that I’m looking for”.
While I do not expect everyone else to share my taste in belongings, I do expect to be treated with courtesy. Saying “it doesn’t do it for me” is condescending. Telling me that my belongings were not “quality” is not only wrong, but insulting. There are other ways to say “no thank you” that would have been far more polite.
There are several other similar shops within walking distance of this one, all of which were helpful and eager to do business unlike Ms. Ryan.
