I had two bathroom countertops done by Jamestown and the company was inept, incompetent, uncooperative, and at times downright belligerent and mean. We had previously had a great experience with Jamestown doing granite countertops in the kitchen and so decided to go with them despite the fact that they were higher in price. I signed the deal on Dec 14, 2017 after we selected our material and expected response shortly after the holidays but it took several weeks into January before they came to template the counters. They came to install on the 30th of January and that’s when the problems appeared. The one granite countertop was drilled for the tap so that the hole was so off-center the plumber refused to install the tap. The other was a soapstone counter and it was clear the installers had never done soapstone before and so used silicone that left dark areas. The prefabricators had treated some of the backsplash pieces like granite and so they were marred. When we tried to call we got telephone out of order messages. Email was not responded to for several days. Finally got through and asked for response – did not get a call back for several days. I sent photos of the problems. They then sent back the installers who claimed the hole was in the center and tried to show this by manipulating the tape measure and square. They scrubbed the soapstone but did not fix the problem. After more calling with lack of quick response James, the boss, agreed to replace the granite counter (which by that point had been through guests who had to wash in the laundry room or kitchen because the guest bath was non-functional). They agreed to take away the soapstone and rebuff it. The installers decided they could do it on site – and replaced properly after I instructed them how to do it. Two weeks later, with no previous request to pay the final small balance, James called in an angry manner and demanded payment and accused us of neglect for not calling in to offer payment. When I tried to suggest that the experience had been so inconvenient and that there was clear incompetence on the part of the installers, that he might give us a small discount (that still would have put final price above the competition) he maintained that the experience was irrelevant and all that mattered was the letter of the contract. In the end he threatened to hand this to collection agency and then hung up on me. I strongly recommend NO ONE use this company. I have never experienced this attitude and level of incompetence and belligerence before.
Jamestown Kitchens did an outstanding job in designing and installing our custom laundry room. They built cabinets that make our washer and dryer look like they are integrated into the room, and the functional workspace is fantastic. Truly one of a kind.
