North American Van Lines have forever scarred my (and more importantly my 4 & 7 year old children’s) memory with. I’m extremely grateful that I read a blog about preparation tips for long-distance Moving. I took their suggestion to download an app that enabled me to record live phone calls on my cell phone. I was able to record literally every single phone conversation starting with the initial sales call I received during which I provided my Itemized inventory list, only to have multiple items purposely left off of the estimate to provide me with a fake low price. The lying telephone rep said those missing items were included, but he just had to name them the same as the items that weren’t missing from the estimate because “the items that were missing just didn’t have their names programmed into the inventory system”. Every recording has been attached with my complaint/request for an on-site office inspection with the Federal Trade Commission for multiple violations of Telephone Sales law. I have also made sure to provide those recordings as well as my initial estimate with multiple items missing and a low price, revised estimate with the items suddenly being able to be added with a much higher price, bill of lading, and all other documents pertaining to our business transaction to the DOT & FMCSA for my DOT complaint where more than one person from each agency has assured me I was, without a doubt, purposely mislead with multiple violations. They also stated those violations are not gray areas in the long-distance moving industry and even better, are specifically gone over in great detail to avoid confusion with ensuring they are never practiced when a company first applies for a DOT & MC number. I am comforted with the DOT & FMCSA saying they’ve got absolutely every single piece of information they need from me, largely due to the phone call recordings, to be able to (at the very least) enforce fines in excess of $100,000 and revoke DOT & MC Numbers from this company.
